Summer is HERE!

Writer's picture: Sue MuldoonSue Muldoon

Summer brings with it a lot of opportunities to change up my schedule a bit more. I can work outside, work remotely, enjoy working in the garage studio (that is a work-in-progress!) and enjoy teaching or doing demos at local farmers markets and festivals.

Between seatweaving, teaching, photography, graphics, web design and helping with marketing for Sail On Tall Tales....my days are full, but rewarding.

(Hey, I'm just working on my "vitamin D"...)

I've been learning a bit more about sailing, painting different parts of the boat, refinishing teak, polishing brass, painting lettering and more. (HINT! Let tomatoes do the work for you...brass hinges soaked in a ziploc bag with diluted tomato paste were quickly brought back to a bright untarnished finish)

Because I can work remotely, I often work on the dock caning chairs. This also gives me a second region to do pick-ups and drop-offs. If you are in the Mystic / Stonington area call or message me and I will arrange a place to swap chairs.

If you would like to book a sail on either Tall Tales or Talespinner, Call Captain Stu at 917-405-5044. There's lots to do in the surrounding area, especially at Mystic Seaport. I'm especially looking forward to the wooden boat show and I will have camera in hand! You can check out last year's photos on Sue Muldoon Images

Market season has begun!

Farmers Markets across the state are opening and celebrating the local bounty our farms, producers and artisans have to offer. As webmaster of the CT Farmers Market Trail I am honored to work with a large group of dedicated professionals that bring you the best and the freshest from around the state.

Check the website for a market near you. Each market also suggests places to go in the surrounding area to make it a day trip.

Recycle! Upcycle! Repurpose!

That's the theme for this Sunday's market at Coventry Farmers Market. I will be in the barn doing a demo on seatweaving and a bit of upcycling.

See how you can weave with belts, ties, denim, wool, cord and even....cane or rush! There will be hands-on opportunities for kids (and adults!)

I will also be doing a demo at Ledyard Farmers Market on August 28 for their upcycle event.

While I am not doing many shows these days, I AM keeping busy teaching many varieties of seatweaving and basketmaking. You can find the list of festivals and classes on the SCHEDULE page. Montreal, Maine, New York...Sheep and Wool festivals!

The schedule updates frequently so keep checking back!

If you are an artist or crafter wishing to participate in Coventry Village Arts on Main, download the application online.

This event will be held August 24th on Main Street in Coventry.

I will have printed applications with me this Sunday at the Coventry Farmers Market at my demo in the barn. The Annual Members Art Show at Millbrook Place can be viewed June 8, 9 and 15, 16th , 1267 Main Street, Coventry CT. I will be there after CFM, as I have 2 pieces in the exhibit.

Put Local On Your Tray

By FAR one of my favorite graphic projects! A wonderful collaboration of many local food and education partners, the project resides at UCONN Extension. Did you know...you can download the artwork to print? Stickers, posters, templates. There's a ton of useful information on each product. Don't forget to use this resource for schools, daycares, clubs and farmers markets.

Artisans at Middle River

You can find Redux For You baskets at the NEW Artisans at Middle River . Owner Dot Drobney has just launched her new venture and it is full of amazing artwork from local vendors. Located at 60 Main Street, Stafford Springs CT. Beautiful gifts for family and friends...or you!

That's it for now...I need to get back to weaving....

If you made it this far down the blog...I THANK YOU!

Have a great weekend.
